CALL TO ORDER
REPRESENTATIVE FRED DYSON, Chair, convened the House Health,
Education and Social Services Standing Committee at 3:08 p.m.
PRESENT
Committee members present were Representatives Dyson, Coghill,
Wilson, Stevens, Cissna, and Kohring. Representative Stevens
joined the hearing shortly after it convened.
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION
RUTH LHOMMEDIEU, Chair, State Independent Living Council (SILC),
presented an overview of this organization and its service to
people with disabilities. She also highlighted several bills in
the legislature that her organization supports, and several they
oppose.
BETH EDMANDS, Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special
Education, discussed the importance of Medicaid to people with
disabilities and highlighted how Medicaid issues affect these
people.
ELAINE MANNING, State Independent Living Council, provided
personal testimony and thanked legislators for her Medicaid
waiver and the benefits received therein.
KATHERINE GOTTLIEB, President, Southcentral Foundation, provided
an overview of the Family Wellness Warriors Initiative which
addresses domestic violence, abuse, and neglect in Alaska from
an approach that serves the entire family.

CHAIR DYSON adjourned the House Health, Education and Social
Services Standing Committee meeting at 3:38 p.m.
